Chapter 326 Server Problem Solved
Chapter 326 Server Problem Solved
"Mr. Chen," Lu Ran said sincerely to Chen Mo, "thank you."
"What are you thanking me for?" Chen Mo laughed. "I said that on this issue, I'm on your side. It's not because you offered me some great deal, but because I believe that the future of China's game market should be in the hands of the Chinese people themselves."
Lu Ran didn't speak, but he tightened his grip on the phone.
He recalled that when he first arrived in this world, everything here was unfamiliar to him.
No family, no friends, no resources, nothing at all.
A year later, he had TUTU, TuTu Technology, League of Legends, Shen Yuege, and a group of brothers willing to work with him.
Now, he also has Chen Mo.
A partner who is willing to believe in him and stand by his side.
"President Chen," Lu Ran said, "Don't worry, I won't let you down."
"I know," Chen Mo said. "You've never let anyone down."
The two chatted for a few more minutes, then Chen Mo said he had a meeting to attend and hung up the phone.
Lu Ran put his phone on the table, leaned back in his chair, and stared at the ceiling for a while.
Shen Yuege walked in carrying a cup of hot tea. Seeing his expression, she asked, "Chen Mo called again?"
"Hmm." Lu Ran nodded. "He told me about the internal situation at Tencent. Right now, there's a power struggle between the two sides: one side supports cooperating with Sakura Games, while the other opposes it. In the end, it's very likely that both sides will be hedging their bets."
"Bet on both sides?" Shen Yuege placed her teacup on the table. "What do you mean?"
"We don't put all our eggs in one basket. We maintain cooperation with them while also keeping in touch with Sakura Games. We'll allocate more resources to whichever side is gaining momentum."
Shen Yuege frowned: "Isn't that very unfair to us? We cooperate with Tencent, but Tencent is contacting our competitors."
"There's no such thing as fairness in business." Lu Ran picked up his teacup and took a sip. "Tencent has its considerations, and we have our strategy. They can bet on both sides, and so can we."
Shen Yuege looked at him: "What do you plan to do?"
Lu Ran thought for a moment and said, "Let's make League of Legends and TUTU great. Let Tencent see that cooperating with TuTu Technology is more valuable than cooperating with Sakura Games. At that point, it won't be a question of whether they choose us or not, but whether we are willing to continue cooperating with them."
Shen Yuege looked into Lu Ran's eyes and saw the certainty in them.
She had seen that look in his eyes many times before. Every time Lu Ran said something like that, he always ended up doing it.
"Chen Mo also said something else." Lu Ran put down his teacup. "He said he chooses to believe in TUTU, to believe in League of Legends, and to believe in me."
Shen Yuege was taken aback: "He really said that?"
"Really." Lu Ran smiled. "He said that I'm someone who takes every step very steadily, not the kind of entrepreneur who gets ahead by luck. He feels at ease working with me."
Shen Yuege smiled as well: "Chen Mo has good taste."
"Of course." Lu Ran leaned back in his chair. "After all, he chose to believe in me. I'm the chosen one; whoever believes in me will win."
Shen Yuege rolled her eyes at him: "Can't you be a little more humble?"
"What's there to be modest about?" Lu Ran said matter-of-factly. "I'm stating the facts. Look at those who have worked with me before—which one lost money? Which one didn't make a fortune?"
Shen Yuege was amused by his appearance and gently patted his shoulder: "Alright, alright, you're the best. Get back to work and stop bragging."
Lu Ran smiled, picked up his phone from the table, found Zhou Mingzhe's number, and dialed it.
"Brother Zhou, please inform all departments that there will be a meeting at ten o'clock. I have some things to arrange."
"What do you mean?" Zhou Mingzhe asked.
"It's a strategy meeting," Lu Ran said. "There's a new situation with Tencent, so we need to adjust our tactics."
"Understood. I'll inform them right away."
After hanging up the phone, Lu Ran leaned back in his chair, put his right leg on a footstool, and stared at the sky outside the window.
The early winter sun shone through the glass window, casting bright patches of light on the floor.
He recalled what Chen Mo had just said—"The future of China's game market should be in the hands of the Chinese people themselves."
He kept those words in mind.
He will not let Chen Mo down, nor will he let those who believe in him down.
League of Legends has only just begun; the best is yet to come.
As for the cherry blossom game, let them do it.
In the Dragon Kingdom's territory, the Dragon Kingdom people have the final say.
...
In the conference room, Lu Ran recounted in detail what Chen Mo had said on the phone.
After listening, Zhou Mingzhe took off his glasses, wiped them, and put them back on.
His expression wasn't very pleasant, but he wasn't too flustered either.
"So, Tencent is now betting on both sides?" he asked.
"Yes." Lu Ran leaned back in his wheelchair, his right leg resting on a footstool. "The investment department is in talks with Sakura Games, and Chen Mo is collaborating with us. In the end, whoever wins will have a more convincing product."
Old Wang sat across from him, holding a cup of coffee that had gone cold. After listening, he shook his head: "These big companies are just that complicated. They're all smiles and friendly with you on one hand, and flirting with your competitors on the other."
"That's normal," Lu Ran said. "With Tencent being such a large company, it's a good thing to have different voices within it. If it were monolithic, it would be even more terrifying. Right now, at least half of the people are on our side, while the other half are still observing. What we need to do is to bring the observing half over as well."
Xiao Yang opened his notebook and asked a very practical question: "President Lu, will the level of support from Chen Mo be affected? After all, he is the head of the East China branch, and he is also under pressure from the investment department at headquarters."
"No," Lu Ran said confidently. "Chen Mo just said on the phone that he will continue to push for cooperation with us on the business level and do his best to provide support for League of Legends. And he said something that I think is very important."
Everyone was looking at him.
Lu Ran said, "He said that the future of China's game market should be in the hands of the Chinese people themselves."
There was a moment of silence in the conference room.
Zhou Mingzhe was the first to speak: "This person has backbone."
"It's not just about having backbone," Lu Ran said. "He has foresight. He knows that once Sakura Games establishes itself in China, it will pose a greater threat to Tencent than to us. So on this issue, his interests are aligned with ours."
Old Wang put down his coffee cup and asked a technical question: "What about the server? Our new server won't arrive for another two days, but the user growth is too fast, and there might be lag during peak hours in the next couple of days. Can Chen Mo help us out?"
Lu Ran thought for a moment, picked up his phone, found Chen Mo's number, and dialed it.
I answered the phone after it rang twice.
"Mr. Chen, there's something I'd like to ask you."
"Please speak."
"Regarding the servers. Our new servers won't arrive for another two days, but user growth has been too rapid these past two days, and there might be lag during peak hours. Does Tencent have any spare server resources that we can temporarily borrow? We don't need too many, just enough to get through these two days."
Chen Mo answered almost without hesitation: "Yes. I'll have the technical department coordinate it, and we can transfer them to you this afternoon. How many do you need?"
Lu Ran looked at Old Wang. Old Wang held up his hand and gestured.
"Are five sets enough?" Lu Ran asked into the phone.
"That's enough," Old Wang nodded.
"Then five groups will do," Lu Ran said. "Thank you, Mr. Chen."
"You're welcome," Chen Mo said. "It's nothing. Once the server arrives, I'll have the tech team coordinate with you; they can help with the deployment."
After hanging up the phone, Lu Ran looked at Lao Wang: "Chen Mo said that five sets of servers can be transferred over this afternoon, and his people will help with the deployment."
Old Wang breathed a sigh of relief, and a smile finally appeared on his face: "That makes things easier. With Tencent's servers holding out for a couple of days, we can smoothly transition once our new servers arrive."
Lu Ran nodded, then looked at Xiao Yang: "The operations department should keep a close eye on user feedback these next few days. Users will definitely complain about the server lag issue, so respond promptly and don't let negative emotions fester."
"Understood." Xiao Yang wrote it down in his notebook.
"And another thing," Lu Ran continued, "how's it going with the streamers? How's their streaming performance since League of Legends launched?"
Xiao Yang flipped through another report: "The results were better than expected. Those streamers who got the test qualifications in advance started streaming on the first day of launch. The number of viewers was much higher than usual, and several top streamers had more than 100,000 viewers watching at the same time. The audience's reaction to the game was also very enthusiastic, with the chat full of questions about how to download, how to register, and which hero to choose for beginners."
"Okay," Lu Ran said. "Keep in touch with these streamers and offer them some perks, like limited-edition skins or priority access. Make them feel that there's a future for them on TUTU Live."
Xiao Yang nodded and wrote it down in his notebook.
Lu Ran then looked at Lao Zhao: "What about the media? Have the review articles been published yet?"
Old Zhao put down his phone: "It's out. More than twenty gaming media outlets have published reviews, with scores generally above eight. Several authoritative media outlets gave it nine points, saying that League of Legends is the most worthwhile competitive game to play this year. Another media outlet wrote a long analysis, saying that this game may change the landscape of China's gaming market."
After listening, Lu Ran didn't show much excitement, he just nodded.
These positive reviews were within his expectations.
The League of Legends game won numerous awards in its previous life, so it's only natural that it will receive praise in this world.
What really matters is not what the media says, but what the players say.
"Brother Zhou," Lu Ran turned to Zhou Mingzhe, "how are the preparations for 'Three Kingdoms Kill' going?"
Zhou Mingzhe flipped through the documents in front of him: "The internal testing data is almost complete, and user feedback is good. The technical department is doing the final optimizations, and we expect to be able to launch the public beta by the end of next week."
"Okay," Lu Ran said. "After League of Legends is launched, we can shift our focus a little more towards Three Kingdoms Kill. Walking on two legs is more stable than walking on one."
Zhou Mingzhe nodded: "I'll arrange it."
The meeting lasted for another half hour, going over the work arrangements for the coming week.
The tech department focused on server and game stability, the operations department focused on data and user feedback, and the marketing department focused on media and public opinion. Everyone was assigned their own tasks.
It was almost noon when the meeting ended.
As everyone walked out of the conference room, Lu Ran called out to Zhou Mingzhe.
"Brother Zhou, wait a minute."
Zhou Mingzhe walked back and sat down opposite him: "What's wrong?"
"I'd like to say a few more words about Chen Mo," Lu Ran said. "Although there are currently two forces vying for power within Tencent, Chen Mo has completely sided with us. He proactively called me today to tell me about Sakura Games and agreed to help adjust the servers, which shows he genuinely wants to cooperate with us. He's a person worth getting to know better."
Zhou Mingzhe nodded: "I agree. Chen Mo has principles and a bottom line in his work, unlike some people who change their stance depending on the wind. I feel at ease cooperating with someone like him."
"So next, we need to take our cooperation with Tencent a step further," Lu Ran said. "It's not just about account login and traffic entry points; we also need to cooperate more in technology, operations, and marketing. We want Chen Mo to see that the value of cooperating with Tutu Technology is much greater than that of cooperating with Sakura Games."
Zhou Mingzhe looked at him: "Are you trying to tie him down through cooperation?"
"It's not about binding him," Lu Ran smiled. "It's about making him unable to leave us. When someone invests enough resources, time, and energy in you, they become increasingly unwilling to lose you. This isn't kidnapping; it's human nature."
Zhou Mingzhe thought for a moment and nodded: "That makes sense."
"There's one more thing." Lu Ran's expression became more serious. "Brother Zhou, keep a close eye on the tech department these days. Old Wang is under a lot of pressure, with League of Legends and Three Kingdoms Kill, plus coordinating server issues with Tencent. Help him out a bit, don't let him carry the whole load."
"I know," Zhou Mingzhe said. "I've already asked the operations department to transfer two people to the technical department to help with testing and documentation. Lao Wang just needs to focus on writing code; he doesn't need to worry about anything else."
Lu Ran nodded in satisfaction: "That's good."
Zhou Mingzhe stood up and patted him on the shoulder: "Take good care of your leg. The battle ahead is still long."
"I know."
Zhou Mingzhe walked out of the conference room, his footsteps gradually fading into the distance.
Lu Ran sat alone in the conference room, looking at the sky outside the window. The sunlight was bright, streaming through the glass windows and casting large patches of light on the floor.
He picked up his phone and sent Chen Mo a message:
[Mr. Chen, I need your help with the server issue.]
Chen Mo replied instantly:
No trouble at all. It's already been arranged, and it will be delivered before 3 PM. The technical department will contact you.
Lu Ran replied with a "thank you" emoji, then added:
Mr. Chen, rest assured, I will not let you down.
Chen Mo sent a smiley face and then said:
I know. You've never let me down.
Lu Ran looked at the message and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
He put his phone in his pocket, stood up with the handrail, and limped out of the conference room.
My right leg still can't exert much force, but it's much better than last week.
The doctor said that the cast can be removed after another week of rest, and then I can try to walk.
He walked to the office door and saw Shen Yuege sitting in his chair, looking at a document in her hand.
"What are you looking at?" He pushed the door open and went in.
"Your meeting minutes." Shen Yuege looked up. "Xiao Yang wrote them; I just grabbed them to take a look. How do you plan to handle the situation with Tencent?"
Lu Ran sat down opposite her, putting his right leg on the footstool: "It's not about responding, it's about cooperating. Chen Mo is one of us now, at least on this issue. He'll speak for us within Tencent and help us secure resources. What we need to do is make League of Legends a success and get the data looking great. Then we won't need to convince anyone; the data will speak for itself."
Shen Yuege looked at him, a hint of heartache in her eyes: "You've been thinking about too many things lately. Games, Tencent, Sakura Games. Is your brain working properly?"
"It's enough." Lu Ran pointed to his head. "My brain can hold the entire universe."
Shen Yuege was amused by him: "You're bragging again."
"I'm not bragging, it's the truth," Lu Ran said seriously. "Look at me, from the time I started this business until now, when have I made a mistake? When have I made a wrong move? No, right? So you have to trust me, and you also have to trust Chen Mo's judgment."
Shen Yuege stood up, walked to his side, and gently patted his shoulder: "I believe in you. But you also need to take care of yourself and not overwork yourself."
"Okay." Lu Ran grasped her hand and squeezed it tightly. "Once League of Legends stabilizes, I'll take a few days off. You'll be with me then."
"Okay." Shen Yuege smiled. "I'll go with you."
