chapter 1048: peace was never an option [part 1]
somewhere in the realm of arkanthos...
"how's our campaign in caldurthia?" a black gargoyle with golden stripes on his body asked.
the one who spoke sat on the obsidian throne, and he was none other than the gargoyle emperor, obelith, the ruler of gargoyles in the realm of arkanthos.
"we have the upper hand in our surprise attack," a red gargoyle replied. "they're now holed up in their capital city, making their last stand. if we send more reinforcements, we will probably conquer their realm within two to three days."nôv(el)b\\jnn
"good," obelith smiled. "what of the other realms we're targeting? janvidr should have fallen by now, no? i have sent more than enough manpower to finally kill that giantess who kept on getting in our way. that old hag should have died long ago, but she is as stubborn as a cockroach."
a black gargoyle shuddered, but it understood that it needed to give its report.
"t-the campaign in janvidr ended in failure, your majesty," the black gargoyle replied. "half of our forces have been wiped out. the rest didn't even get to enter because the giantess, xanda, sealed the entrance to her domain using her seal and authority."
"... what did you say?" obelith asked icily. "did i hear it right? even with all that manpower, you still failed to conquer and add janvidr to the worlds under our banner?"
"y-your majesty, please forgive us," the black gargoyle stuttered. "if only the entrance wasn't sealed, we would have managed to kill the giantess and offer her severed head to you as proof of our conquest. please, give me one more cha-craaaah!"
the black gargoyle wasn't able to finish whatever he was going to say next because his head was shattered by the tip of a black tail with golden stripes on its surface.
"useless thing!" obelith growled, making all the gargoyles in the throne room shudder. "after all that investment, he still failed to kill that puny demigod?! must i do everything myself?!"
the gargoyle emperor glanced at his subjects, who all averted their gazes in fear that they would be the ones who would be destroyed next.
"gather the remaining gargoyles in arkanthos!" obelith ordered. "i will put an end to that blasted xanda and rip her head off myself!"
just as obelith's subordinate was about to carry out his order, a wolf howl spread within the gargoyle citadel, which made him frown.
it was not only obelith who was surprised by this development but also his subordinates.
"is that a wolf howl?" the red gargoyle asked.
the only creatures in arkanthos were gargoyles, so hearing a wolf howl in their realm was unheard of... at least, until today.
within the realm of arkanthos, he reigned supreme, so there was nothing for him to worry about.
"did he just call us cannon fodders?" lyall asked cedric.
"he did," cedric replied, narrowing his eyes at the arrogant gargoyle in the distance.
"well, he sure looks delusional enough to me," godfrey chuckled. "what was that saying? ah, right. confidence is what you have before you understand the problem."
princess ariel, who was standing beside godfrey giggled. "well, then. what should we do, your highness?"
ethan, who was flanked by chloe, illumina, and princess wilhelmina, summoned his sea god's trident and pointed it forward.
"kill!" ethan only said a single word, but it was exactly what everyone was thinking right
now.
the dwarves, who were riding their mighty mountain goats, laughed as they charged forward, leading the cavalry.
the elves and beastkins weren't any slower. they headed toward the giantess, xanda, intending to reinforce her in battle.
"wizards and witches, to arms!" professor rinehart shouted before flying toward the sky,
followed by professor barret and the grand archmage, edmond.
the hundreds of elite wizards and witches that came along them all flew toward the sky with their flying brooms, the tips of their wand glowing with magic.
"magistratus, show no mercy!" wallace ordered.
professor rinehart and his team flew east, flanking the rest of their army.
wallace and the magistratus flew toward the west.
ethan glanced at illumina and princess wilhelmina, who nodded to him at the same time.
the two of them would stay behind to protect chloe and princess ariel, who would use their abilities to cast supporting spells from the rear, boosting the overall performance of the entire army.
