Chapter 146 Shocks Everyone
"So, what are these observers observing?"
"And why establish an outpost here?"
Hector asked in a deep voice.
Rowling shook his head: "The information we have now is insufficient to answer these questions."
"The base is severely damaged, and the corresponding control and recording units are missing."
"Perhaps the legendary ruins deep in the Ash Plains, or other undiscovered relics in the Burning Mountains, could provide more clues."
At this moment, the former Ash Ring wizard seemed to recover from his shock, forcing himself to remain calm, and said with a questioning tone, "That's just your side of the story!"
"Perhaps you simply used some special method to temporarily activate the remaining energy!"
"It cannot prove its true purpose at all!"
"The Ring of Ashes—they have more information, their judgment—"
"If their judgment is correct, why haven't they been able to successfully repair any similar devices yet?" Roland interrupted him, his tone still calm, yet carrying an undeniable authority.
"Instead, they're going further and further down the wrong path, even resorting to the dangerous energy of Corruption Source for brutal and destructive experiments?"
The former Ash Ring wizard was speechless, his face turning pale and then red.
Hector waved his hand, stopping any potential argument.
He looked at Rolin, then at Duden: "The appraisals of you outer-world wizards are very valuable."
"This base and these items need to be reassessed."
"The Empire is also conducting an investigation into the ruins of the Ash Plains."
"Perhaps we can have a deeper collaboration in the future."
His attitude had clearly changed because of Rowling's demonstration.
"Thank you for your recognition, Commander."
Duden, the researcher, chimed in at the opportune moment.
"We will also give a full report of today's findings and analysis to Santa Fe."
Hector nodded, said nothing more, and turned to leave the room with his men.
Before leaving, the former Ash Ring wizard couldn't help but look back at Roland one last time, his gaze complex and unfathomable.
The room returned to silence, with only the pedestal and rune plate lying quietly on the stone platform.
Researcher Duden let out a long breath, looking at Rowling with amazement and curiosity in his eyes: "Rollling—how did you just do that?"
"That energy frequency and activation pathway —"
"Part of it was inspired by Soria's analyst notes, and part of it was—my special sensitivity to energy structures," Rolin explained vaguely, without revealing the specific functions of the Echo Unit and the Insight Ring.
He rubbed his still throbbing temples.
"However, it's quite taxing, so I need to rest."
Gorson walked over and patted Rowling on the shoulder. Although he didn't say anything, his eyes said it all.
This young first-ring wizard earned the respect of this battle wizard through his actions.
Barum, the steward, finally came to his senses, and his gaze towards Roland completely changed, filled with awe and disbelief: "Outland wizard—you, you really brought it back to life?"
Even if it's just for a little while—
Roland simply nodded to him without saying anything more. He knew that today's demonstration had not only intimidated the Empire and the former Ash Ring members.
More importantly, it has given them more say and initiative in future contacts and potential cooperation with Shadow Raven Tower.
After a short rest and taking a bottle of calming potion, Rolin felt that his mental energy had recovered considerably.
Researcher Duden was fully engaged in his work, carefully using specialized tools to measure and trace the rune plates and base patterns activated by Rolin, constantly muttering various parameters and conjectures.
"The energy loop exhibits a clear hierarchical structure—redundant design at the nodes—this pursuit of stability is simply extreme—and there's also the internal refractive matrix of the focusing crystal."
"My God, what kind of understanding of energy phases does it take to design this?!"
Duden's eyes were shining, as if he had become ten years younger.
Gorson remained at the door, but his occasional glances carried a hint of curiosity.
Barum's steward became much more respectful, bringing over several stone benches and asking if anyone needed water.
The afternoon's work mainly involved detailed recording and preliminary analysis.
Rowling didn't try to activate any other items. The demonstration he had just given was enough, and excessive exposure might attract unnecessary attention and suspicion.
He primarily utilizes the perception and recording functions of the Insight Ring, in conjunction with Duden, to perform detailed energy characteristic scanning and structural analysis on each item, storing the data in the recording crystal.
During this time, Commander Hector sent some simple food and water, and conveyed that, given the preliminary assessment showed that the artifacts had high research value, they were granted permission to stay in the fortress for two more days to conduct more in-depth documentation, but the items themselves would remain in the appraisal center.
This is a positive sign.
As evening fell, the three were taken to a stone house inside the fortress, which was reserved for outsiders.
The stone house wasn't large, but it was fairly clean, with three simple stone beds. Imperial soldiers were still standing guard at the entrance.
After closing the door and setting up a makeshift soundproof barrier, Duden immediately lowered his voice excitedly and said, "Rolling, you did a fantastic job today!"
"Not only did you refute the fallacies of that Ash Ring traitor, but more importantly, you demonstrated the expertise of our Shadow Raven Tower in energy analysis and the restoration of ancient technologies!"
"Hector's attitude is clearly different now!"
Gorson nodded and said in a deep voice, "That Flameblade commander is a proud but pragmatic fellow."
"Once you prove your worth, he will give you the corresponding respect and convenience."
"This is far more effective than empty talk in the Empire."
Rowling waved his hand: "It just so happens that I have some feeling for this kind of energy structure."
"Over the next two days, we need to solidify our data."
"Especially that base, I suspect there might be more than one, or other supporting components scattered around."
Duden nodded repeatedly: "That's right! I'm already working backward from the base's structure to deduce any missing control units and energy source components."
"If we can find more fragments, we might be able to piece together a more complete image."
"Also," Rowling thought of the former Ash Ring wizard.
"We need to keep an eye on that person."
"He was publicly refuted today, and he looked very upset."
"The Ash Ring has a deep obsession with these kinds of relics, and his so-called repentance and defection to the Empire may not be so simple."
A cold glint flashed in Gorson's eyes: "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on things. He won't dare to do anything openly on Imperial territory, but it's better to be safe than sorry."
Silent all night.
Rowling spent the time in meditation, continuing to consolidate his mind and adapt to the newly acquired Ring of Insight.
The next day, they returned to the testing center.
Manager Barum was already waiting there, along with two more "apprentices" sent by the Empire, ostensibly to assist with the work, but in reality to supervise and learn.
The work proceeded in an orderly manner.
Rowling and Duden divided the work: one was responsible for energy level scanning and data modeling, while the other was responsible for physical structure analysis and literature comparison.
Gorson walked around the room seemingly casually, but in reality, he was keeping a close watch on every corner and every person coming in and out.
In the afternoon, when Rowling used the Ring of Insight to perform a deep scan of the dim crystals, he made a new discovery.
At the core of one of the crystals with the most complex internal structure, he detected a faint, intermittent trace of energy.
This mark is not an energy circuit, but more like a compressed and stored piece of information?
