Chapter 36 The Potions Competition
Chapter 36 The Potions Competition
"Now? Master Eve is looking for me?" Li Ang was a little surprised, as this was the first time Master Eve had taken the initiative to contact him.
"Yes, please come with me." Ginny bowed.
Walking towards Eve's living room, Li Ang recalled a question that had been lingering in his mind and couldn't help but whisper to Ginny beside him:
"Ms. Ginny, I have a question... I've heard several mentors refer to mentor Eve as... 'The Dwelling Princess'? What does that title mean...?"
Upon hearing this, Ginny's face instantly revealed a complex expression that mixed helplessness and disbelief that the man had no idea.
She carefully looked around before lowering her voice to answer:
"Living in a cramped space... well, that's because Lady Eve never teaches in public classrooms, and she almost never leaves the workshop and living quarters area, let alone, like other instructors, she occasionally goes to other wizard towers to exchange academic ideas."
"In terms of taking on apprentices, you were Lady Eve's first personally taught disciple... As for the title 'Princess'..."
Ginny lowered her voice even further, with a hint of warning: "You absolutely mustn't mention it in front of Lady Eve. She really dislikes that title, and as for why..."
She paused, a hint of amusement flashing in her eyes, and looked at Li Ang. "Lady Eve's full name is Eve Chloe. And our sect leader, Lord Carlos's full name is Carlos Chloe. Do you understand?"
Li Ang suddenly stopped in his tracks, his pupils contracting slightly.
Chloe!
So that's how it is. It turns out that Master Eve is the daughter of Carlos, the head of the school, [All Spirits].
No wonder she can live in such a cramped place and own such a large workshop. I've unintentionally latched onto a powerful figure.
Seeing Li Ang's surprised and shocked expression, Ginny smiled with satisfaction and said no more.
The two quickly arrived at Eve's living room door. Ginny knocked and respectfully said:
"Lady Eve, Apprentice Leon has arrived." Soon the door opened silently, and Ginny gestured for Leon to enter, while she stood outside without going in.
Li Ang took a deep breath, straightened his gray robe, and stepped inside.
Eve was still sitting on that comfortable velvet sofa. Today she was wearing a formal black wizard's robe, but it still couldn't hide her amazing curves.
She was playing with a small crystal bottle in her hand, inside which was a familiar potion that shimmered with a moon-white light.
Seeing Li Ang enter, she raised her light blue eyes and handed him the crystal bottle in her hand, her tone still calm:
"Here you go. [Basic Lung Healing Potion]. Now that you've become my apprentice, I won't be stingy with this. If you have any questions in the future, just let me know."
Li Ang froze on the spot, staring at the bottle of potion that was clearly of much better quality than the one he had refined the night before, and a look of extreme embarrassment appeared on his face.
He touched his nose, somewhat embarrassed, and said, "Uh... thank you for your concern, mentor. However... my lung disease... I prepared a dose myself last night and took it... and it's completely cured now."
"Hmm?" Eve's hand, which was handing out the potion, froze in mid-air, and for the first time, a clear look of surprise flashed in her eyes.
She carefully examined Li Ang and found that his complexion had become much rosier, his breathing was long and steady, and the faint trace of illness had indeed disappeared.
A complex expression flashed across her face, a mixture of surprise, admiration, and a hint of frustration.
Eve silently withdrew the potion, her tone unreadable: "You... you successfully concocted it yourself?"
She placed the potion on the coffee table, her gaze returning to Li Ang. For the first time, she looked at this apprentice she had taken on by chance with such seriousness:
"Your talent and diligence are even better than I expected."
She paused for a moment and continued, "Although the lung healing potion is only a basic one, the requirements for the timing and mental guidance are close to the entry level of some intermediate potions. To be honest, I didn't expect you to be able to refine it successfully."
Her voice remained calm, yet it carried a hint of disappointment and admiration.
"You were able to successfully refine it independently, which shows that your actual ability has exceeded that of an ordinary apprentice."
Li Ang's heart stirred slightly, but he remained respectful on the surface: "It is because of your proper guidance, mentor."
Eve didn't seem to care about his modesty and pointed lightly to the empty sofa next to her, indicating that he should sit down.
After Li Ang sat down beside her, she continued:
"Within the faction, an annual 'Silver Cauldron' potion-making competition is held, open to all apprentice wizards. The winner's reward... is quite generous."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over the badge that belonged to her on Li Ang's chest:
"The monetary rewards within the faction are naturally substantial, and several large merchant guilds with long-term partnerships with the Tower will provide sponsorship, with the winner receiving an additional reward from them. Furthermore…"
She emphasized her words almost imperceptibly: "Being able to leave an impression on the leaders of several schools of thought is an intangible benefit that will be crucial for future development."
Li Ang's heart skipped a beat. What his mentor Eve had said was undoubtedly the resource he desperately needed.
"Although the competition is for apprentice wizards," Eve's tone remained flat, as if she were stating a trivial matter.
"However, if you're interested, I can help you get a spot in the competition."
Her gaze fell on Li Ang, her eyes filled with a question, silently waiting for Li Ang's reply.
Without any hesitation, Li Ang immediately bowed in respect.
"Thank you to my mentor for giving me this opportunity; of course I'm happy to participate."
Upon hearing her apprentice's reply, Eve's icy expression finally softened, revealing a slight smile.
She gave a soft "hmm," then, as if realizing something, quickly wiped the smile from her face and continued:
"The competition will be held in a month. Ginny will tell you the specific rules later. During this month, you can use the materials in the workshop to practice freely, but don't waste them."
"I understand, and I will never waste my mentor's resources," Li Ang solemnly replied.
"Go ahead," Eve waved.
Suppressing his excitement, Li Ang respectfully withdrew from Eve's living room.
After leaving his mentor Eve's residence, Li Ang went to the workshop to take on a few commissions and continue with his original purpose for the day.
It was only then that Li Ang belatedly realized that his mentor, Eve, seemed to have been deliberately speaking in a low voice all day.
Only when he agreed to participate in the competition and uttered that brief "hmm" did he regain his previous childlike demeanor, but he immediately became subdued again.
Moreover, she was dressed in a formal wizard's robe today, and she wasn't reading any novels. Could it be that during their last meeting, my glance made Teacher Eve feel slighted?
So, was the reason you spoke in a low voice throughout today to make yourself appear more authoritative as a mentor?
It seems I'll have to think of a way to get closer to this mentor in the future.
