Chapter 447 : White Cat Tifa
Chapter 447 : White Cat Tifa
"Swoosh swoosh swoosh—"As Janna darted through the lake in her carp form, the sound of wizard apprentices flying overhead broke through the air from time to time.
It was as if something urgent was constantly chasing them. Everyone in the White Tower looked extremely busy, unwilling to waste even a moment.
"Splash——"
When Janna finally reached the shore, her fish tail flicked, and she leapt onto land, transforming back from her carp form into her human body.
"That should be the White Tower ahead."
Sharing the vision of nearby plants, Janna quickly spotted the entrance to the first floor of the White Tower.
"Gawen will take a while before she reaches the shore. I’ll go inside and wait for her."
Watching Gawen-Toul still moving slowly across the surface of the lake, Janna thought for a moment, then decided to head to the White Tower first.
"Hiss hiss—"
"Awooo—"
"Ribbit——ribbit——"
The hiss of snakes, the howls of wolves, and the croaks of poisonous toads—just like in the Misty Forest outside White Coral Academy, the forest surrounding the White Tower was also filled with traces of magical beasts.
Fortunately, although these beasts looked ferocious, they would not actively attack wizard apprentices guided by the guiding spirits. Thus,
until Janna reached the White Tower’s gate, she had not encountered a single beast blocking her path.
"【Number One】, is this door the entrance to the White Tower?"
At the base of the towering White Tower was a passage shaped like a door, shimmering with an illusory glow. To be cautious, Janna turned to 【Number One】 beside her and asked.
"Yes."
Hearing 【Number One】’s confirmation, Janna took a deep breath and quickly walked toward the entrance.
"Pop——"
As soon as Janna stepped into the glowing passage, her vision lit up. In the next instant, an unusually vast space appeared before her eyes.
"So this is the inside of the White Tower—"
Streaks of light shot across like meteors, silver lines densely woven. Looking up at the marvelous ceiling, which was no different from a starry night sky, Janna’s eyes couldn’t help but gleam with wonder.
"Roar——"
While she was observing the ceiling, a dragon’s roar echoed not far away.
Turning toward the sound, she saw the Dragon Vein Sorcerer who had flown over her and Gawen-Toul earlier, now soothing a black dragon at his side.
"Bosain, keep your dragon under control, or next time I really will slaughter it!"
"An Elf of Green?"
At a glance, Janna could recognize the tall figure scolding loudly—the pointed ears, emerald-green hair, and delicate features revealed her identity instantly.
"Sorry, Sena, it won’t happen again."
"Hmph!"
Hearing Bosain’s apology, the Green Elf named Sena only snorted coldly before stepping onto her unicorn. With a beat of her wings, she flew straight into the "ceiling" and disappeared.
"Ah?"
Watching the Green Elf and her unicorn vanish into the "night sky", Janna widened her eyes in surprise.
"So that 『ceiling』 really is an actual sky?"
Not only the Green Elf—before long, a few wizard apprentices riding flying brooms also descended from the night sky, quickly entering the teleportation gate at the center of the first-floor hall.
"Welcome, newcomer. What’s your name?"
While Janna was still dazed, a white cat with a pink bow tied around her neck suddenly appeared before her, perched atop a floating book.
"Hello, my name is Janna Roland."
Seeing the white cat before her, Janna couldn’t help but recall the black cat at White Coral Academy who liked to lounge on the Magical Crystal Wall and stare at people from beneath its chin.
"Janna Roland, hm—yes, you are indeed registered as an apprentice. This is your Interdimensional Storage Ring. Inside, you’ll find what you need."
As she spoke, an intricately designed interdimensional storage ring engraved with the White Tower’s emblem appeared upon the book’s pages,
then floated over to Janna.
"Thank you—may I ask your name?"
"My name is Tifa. You may call me Lady Tifa."
Tifa—
Hearing the white cat introduce herself, Janna nodded.
"Thank you, Lady Tifa."
"You’re welcome, apprentice."
Gracefully licking her paw, White Cat Tifa then sat back upon her book and vanished into the void.
"I’ll wait here for Gawen—"
After about twenty minutes, Gawen-Toul finally arrived at the White Tower.
Just like with Janna, White Cat Tifa appeared before Gawen and handed her the same Interdimensional Storage Ring.
Afterward, under the guidance of a guiding spirit, the two of them were led to the apprentice dormitory on the third floor of the White Tower, where they completed their check-in separately.
"Rather than a dormitory, it’s more like a giant beehive."
Unlike the stand-alone dormitory buildings at White Coral Academy, the White Tower’s apprentice dormitories were all concentrated on the third floor.
The third floor was built as a massive circular structure. Every two meters or so was a dormitory door,
and between these doors were floating staircases interlinked like tangled branches, forming a chaotic sight.
"Room 1027."
Standing before a white dormitory door in the middle section of the third floor, Janna softly read the number plate. She then retrieved a crystal orb glowing with faint blue light from her 【Thorn Bracelet】.
"Door Spirit, this will be your new home from now on."
She lifted the seal upon the orb, releasing the Door Spirit’s soul, which entered the white door engraved with the number 【1027】.
"Miss Janna, I didn’t expect you to enter the White Tower so soon—I thought it would take several days."
As the Door Spirit entered the dormitory, the blank door transformed into the familiar form of Janna’s "self-portrait".
"Originally, it should have taken a few more days, but plans rarely keep up with changes."
Hearing the familiar voice of the Door Spirit in this strange place finally gave Janna a sense of comfort.
Just a few days earlier, the night before Janna departed for Dordogne, after careful thought, the Door Spirit had chosen to terminate its contract with White Coral Academy. Unable to bear parting from her, it decided to accompany Janna to Dordogne–White Tower.
"Oh? I actually have a new neighbor!"
While Janna was talking with the Door Spirit, a sharp voice suddenly interrupted their conversation.
Looking toward the sound, she saw, about four or five meters away, another oil painting portrait fixed upon a dormitory door, staring straight at Janna and the Door Spirit.
