Chapter 916: The Weeping Emperor
Chapter 916: The Weeping Emperor
"Where is Seth?" Emperor Zain asked the question that had been on everyone’s mind for the longest period of time.No matter how much they raised the overall spatial defense of the entire Draconic Heaven, it didn’t stop the Dimensional System Portals from opening.
The only thing it did was increase the amount of energy required to open them and Seth was not even aware of this.
To him and his allies, it felt like the lions could leave and come to Draconic Heaven whenever they wanted.
That may not be the case, but that’s how it looked.
He had refrained from joining the battles because they had told him not to. He really wanted to join.
Emperor Zain was not some kind of battle junky who wanted to fight. He was quiet level headed actually.
All he wanted to do was allow this war to pass over him.
He didn’t want to believe that he would just be a stepping stone on the journey of the All-King. If the All-King was to defeat him and his people, his rise from there would be legendary.
History would remember Emperor Zain not as the former ally of the All-King, not as the co-fighter in the battle against the Abomination, but as a betrayer who had to be put down.
It was quite saddening and offensive.
Emperor Zain wanted to dash out and kill as many lions as he could, chasing them away back to where they came from.
He didn’t want them to trample over all that he had built.
Unfortunately, he was stopped before he did it.
Some of the things that sounded right on paper usually did not make much sense on the battlefield.
Emperor Zain had reasoned that if he just pulled up with his immortal status and the power of Creation, he would be able to outmaneuver all of them.
Surely, he would be able to defeat them just as he had imagined.
But, he and his allies had to reevaluate who they were fighting against seriously.
A civilization of kings, a nation of absolute tyrants.
The nature of the Lions showed that the more someone resisted, the more brutal and aggressive they became.
History has shown that war has often been a catalyst for the rise of powerful individuals and the development of highly dangerous technologies.
With the Lions, this wasn’t going to be a gamble, it was going to be a certainty.
As long as the war dragged on for a while, or as long as the enemy they were fighting was strong but also defeatable, unlike Ibadon, they would actually retaliate with exponential force.
If Emperor Zain was to join now, that would just speed up the process as there was no certainty that his presence would change much.
Sure, he might kill a few immortals here and there and decimate the army of vassals they have brought into his heavenly realm but that was it.
The lions only sent one third of their forces.
There was still double the brutality and tyranny where the current fighters came from.
And most importantly, the big guys had not yet shown up.
Alexander, Azeus, Jordan, and Phestus were not yet spotted on the battlefield at all.
The highest-ranking individuals on the battlefield right now were the consorts of the All-King, and all of them were mid-level immortals at best with special powers.
No High-Level Immortal has shown up so far.
That was a big fear for Emperor Zain and the whole creation dragons.
There was literally a whole society of High-Level Immortals from the Lions who had not yet shown themselves.
This was why Emperor Zain had to hold back and think properly, if not he would die a laughable death.
The more the battle lasted, the more Emperor Zain was sure that the Lions were just fighting for something in particular.
That conclusion was solidified with the appearance of the clones of the All-King and the death of the imperial chancellor.
He could now see through his connection to the Draconic Heaven that the lions were starting to retreat and new portals were appearing everywhere.
Emperor Zain was vexed, offended, and deeply aggravated.
He couldn’t take revenge for his most loyal subordinate because his seniors could see that there would be no benefit in such.
Emperor Zain blamed himself.
He remembered all the sacrifices he had made for the sake of this empire.
’Oh Victoria, my sweet disciple...’ Emperor Zain said as he looked down at the ground he was standing on.
He squeezed his hands into fists and hid his face from the sky.
Up above, the Supreme Dragon who was still sitting cross-legged in the sky waved the frozen mirror away.
He looked down at his junior with a cold frown.
*Tap*
A single tear dropped to the ground, emitting a crisp sound that was very noticeable to both of them.
The frown on the supreme dragon’s face eased. He sighed.
Down below, Emperor Zain’s face was hidden from the sky and his senior, but the tears still dropped to the ground.
He cried.
He cried like a baby.
He cried because he felt utterly helpless.
He cried because the weight of all his sacrifices came crashing down today in the form of despiteful memories.
How could he possibly endure all this tragedy anymore?
He had been warned from the very first time he tried to do it. When he wanted to make an alliance with the lion to beat Ibadon, he had been warned.
The lions never maintained an alliance with anyone. All those who formed alliances with the lions in the past ended up being their targets later on.
He had been warned.
But because of his grand vision, he ended up doing it anyway, believing that it was worth it.
He really believed that he would be the stronger party and keep them at bay while the Creation Dragons kept on rising.
He had sacrificed Victoria, his loyal disciple and assistant for that very alliance to fall through.
He had sacrificed the one person who could have possibly cared about him genuinely.
For what?
Emperor Zain broke down, collapsing to his knees as he began to sob. His tears soaked his beard and shirt.
The Supreme Dragon above did not say anything.
He didn’t really know what would push the Emperor of a cosmic empire to weep like this but he could imagine.
Just because he was an overpowered entity of creation didn’t mean he was exempt from emotional turmoil.
Emperor Zain was not like Kael or Katari who could naturally not care about anyone but what they wanted.
He wasn’t like N’bayé who could prioritize logic over all things.
He wasn’t like Priya who could compartmentalize her emotions.
He wasn’t like Ibadon who had been driven mostly by revenge.
He wasn’t like Seth who had an ambition that occupied his time and morals.
He was just a dragon with a dream.
The dream of bringing the Creation Dragons to the apex of the universe and him being with them as their leader.
Today, he was seeing his dream crumble right in front of him.
Five hundred thousand years of work, effort, sacrifices, and careful planning, were for nothing.
It was all for nothing.
"Where is Seth!" Emperor Zain shouted, bringing his arm up to wipe the tears from his face.
A grown man could cry but he could not cry forever.
When Emperor Zain wiped the tears from his face, all that was left was a deep coldness. It was the look of a man who had absolutely nothing else to lose.
"He’s off-world." The Supreme Dragon said calmly, "Probably doing whatever his father asked him to do."
"Fuck that," Emperor Zain backed with his teeth gritted, "We need him to do what he did in Original Heaven.
We need him to pass through the barrier to the Alphaverse."
The Supreme Dragon nodded his young head, "That’s a good idea but he’s currently unreachable and unresponsive telepathically.
You need not worry too much though, allies have come to our rescue.
The fall of the lion race is imminent."
"More allies?" Emperor Zain asked, raising his head up to look at the sky and connecting to the Heavenly Realm to see what the Supreme Dragon was talking about.
The Supreme Dragon wore a cold smile as he waved his large sleeves. He sat up from his sitting position and floated down.
"Don’t cry too much, young child. The lions are the common enemies of the universe.
While they fight us, it is in the universe’s best interest if we defeat them.
We have the Highest Will backing us," The Supreme Dragon said with frantic light. His body started emitting a cold killing light.
Emperor Zain looked into the distance and saw multiple flashing dots in the distance speeding through his heavenly realm.
Stars.
Lots of stars.
Each of them moving with the power of a hundred Low-Level Immortals each.
The scene was bright, radiant, and glorious.
"Who is that?" Emperor Zain asked.
The Supreme Dragon smiled. He flexed his shoulders and twisted his neck, looking like he was preparing to join the battle.
"That is the Primordial Moth, the Singularity of Stars, and the oldest Immortal Tier being in the whole universe."
