Chapter 42 Substitute Teaching
Chapter 42 Substitute Teaching
"Han Xue and Fei Yue."
Why?
During the questioning, Bai Yuzhe flipped through the files of the two women. The former was easy to understand: she came from a single-parent family and was relatively poor, which would naturally lead to personality traits such as low self-esteem and introversion.
The latter's file, however, was quite normal. His family, while not exactly wealthy, certainly didn't have to worry about basic necessities like food and fuel.
"Yes, Han Xue often has bruises on her body, which suggests she may have suffered from domestic violence or school bullying. Her former homeroom teacher wanted to help her, but was refused. Senior Xiaobai, I hope you can keep an eye on this."
Bai Yuzhe nodded upon hearing this, keeping it in mind.
Students from impoverished backgrounds like Han Xue usually receive special attention from their homeroom teachers. These students are typically very hardworking and are often excellent learners who need to rely on the college entrance examination to escape their circumstances.
"As for Fei Yue, it's more complicated. Her family is very rich, she's very smart, but she has a terrible personality. You need to be careful."
"hold head high?"
As I listened, something seemed off. Who was Fei Yue? Her personality was extremely awful; the teacher needed to be extra careful!
In his professional career, Bai Yuze has not actually encountered any truly problematic students. Although some of the students he has taught have poor grades, their character is excellent.
Over the course of three years, he heard a lot of gossip about other classes, but his own class seemed to have a good reputation.
Now, Hoshino-sensei suddenly tells him that there will be problem students next semester.
My first thought wasn't boredom, but curiosity.
As the saying goes, even shit tastes good until you've been beaten down by society.
Therefore, Bai Yuze planned to go to the second-year high school class to see these two problem students in advance.
Grade 11 office
Chen Yuyi held the thermos, her lips pursed slightly.
He glanced sideways at Bai Youqing, waiting for her explanation.
Bai Youqing didn't know how to explain it; she couldn't explain why she kept encountering calamity beasts.
The scene fell silent for a moment.
"Do you really want to become a magical girl?" Chen Yuyi broke the silence, asking casually.
"Yes, I want to protect Yeqiu City, and I also want to protect my family and classmates." Bai Youqing's words were very firm.
"Fighting monstrous beasts is not child's play; people really die. I originally hoped you would undergo a summer of training before engaging with these monstrous beast incidents, but you can still back out now."
"I have no regrets. I hope to use my own strength to protect those who need protection, instead of running away and hiding behind you."
Bai Youqing lowered her head. She wasn't as great as she claimed. After becoming a magical girl, her first thought was that she finally had the power to protect her brother. She wanted to become stronger quickly so that she could protect her family first and then protect everyone else.
Looking at Bai Youqing's determined gaze, Chen Yuyi wanted to say something, but couldn't bring herself to say it. She could only nod helplessly.
"Okay, then after school this afternoon, you can go to the fourth floor of the library with Xia Qing and Han Xue for class. I'll talk to your brother about it."
Bai Yuze's figure flashed past the door.
When Bai Yuze passed by the first-year high school office, he didn't linger. After all, he was just passing by. He had originally wanted to check on his younger sister's studies, but found the classroom seats empty.
However, as he passed by the office, he caught a glimpse of the latter. His gaze fell on the girl in the corner, and he couldn't help but smile faintly.
The once proud lark,
At this moment, he looked as listless as a quail with its head tucked in.
Bai Yuze only glanced at it from afar and couldn't quite hear what was said, but he guessed that the reprimand was related to what happened the night before last.
It's good to reprimand them a few more times, after all, battle is not child's play, people can really die.
"Teacher Bai!"
As I reached the top of the stairs, a sound suddenly came from behind me.
Bai Yuze paused, turned around, and saw a familiar middle-aged face.
Zhang Qiang, the homeroom teacher of Class D in the second year of high school, is a middle-aged man, about forty or fifty years old, wearing black-rimmed glasses, and looks rather serious.
She has a few faint wrinkles on her face, but she doesn't look old.
"Oh, it's Teacher Zhang."
The teacher in front of him was the homeroom teacher of the class he would be taking over next semester; the two had exchanged a few words after the last meeting.
"Ms. Bai, excuse me, do you have a class in the second period?" Ms. Zhang asked hurriedly.
"No……"
Bai Yuzhe thought for a moment and then said.
Teacher Zhang's eyes lit up, and she immediately said, "Yes, that's right. There's been a bit of a problem at home, and I need to go back to take care of it."
"Because the matter is so urgent, I can't find a substitute teacher. Could you cover one class for me? They can study on their own."
Upon hearing this, Bai Yuzhe nodded slightly in agreement, as he also wanted to see his new students for the next semester.
Let's also take a look at those two problem students who were specifically reminded by Hoshino-sensei.
"Is it Class D of Grade 11?" Bai Yuze asked.
"Yes, yes, thank you very much."
After saying thank you again, Teacher Zhang hurriedly left, seemingly because she had booked a high-speed rail ticket and was in a hurry.
More than half an hour later, the bell rang for the second period—
Bai Yuze walked into Class D with his lesson plan in hand. The noisy class fell silent instantly, and everyone turned their curious and puzzled gazes toward him.
"Your teacher, Ms. Zhang, has some urgent business to attend to at home, so this period will be a self-study period. I'd like to ask you a question while we're at it."
"What's the problem?"
The good students in the classroom, upon hearing that it was self-study time, had already buried their heads and started doing their homework and studying on their own, while most of the average and mischievous students were attracted by Bai Yuze's words, and all their eyes were fixed on him.
Do you guys think I'm handsome?
"handsome!!"
"If you guys think I'm handsome, then I won't feel any pressure next semester."
Upon hearing Bai Yuze's words, the students in Class D immediately became excited. Could this teacher be their homeroom teacher for the next semester?
She is indeed good-looking.
She also likes to joke around, and by all accounts, she's much easier to get along with than the pedantic head teacher, Mr. Chen.
"Quiet down for a moment. Since you're so welcoming, how about we get to know each other and play a little game?"
The rules of the game are simple: We will work in groups, and you will take turns saying your names. After your group has finished, I need to accurately identify the student whose name you just said. If I don't recognize the student or I make a mistake, you can ask me a question. You can ask me a question about Chinese, Math, English, History, Physics, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, or Politics.
If I recognize you, your group will need to answer my questions. Don't worry, the questions I ask will be drawn from the knowledge you learned in your first and second years of high school.
In an instant, the students' enthusiasm soared, and even some top students who were buried in their studies couldn't help but raise their heads. Who doesn't like to challenge the teacher's authority?
While listening to the students announce their names, Bai Yuzhe secretly observed Han Xue and Fei Yue. The former was engrossed in her studies, oblivious to everything else, and was indeed a diligent and hardworking student.
Upon seeing the latter's appearance, Bai Yuze's pupils contracted.
Good heavens, isn't this Fei Yue the Ye Qiu City student he saved this morning?
Images flashed wildly in my mind, splitting the screen.
On one side, there was the young girl in the fireworks field that morning, crying and recounting her tragic family history.
On one side was the personal file he had just been looking through. The girl's father was a top student who graduated from the law department of Yeqiu City University and was a very famous lawyer. The girl's mother graduated from the University of Tokyo. They belonged to a typical elite family.
Even before they had officially made contact, he seemed to have sensed the danger posed by the girl.
A class period of forty minutes passed in the blink of an eye. He asked thirty-nine questions to the thirty-nine students in the class and, incidentally, confiscated a novel from Fei Yue.
Dozens of pairs of eyes looked at Bai Yuze with resentment.
Especially Xia Qing, sitting next to Han Xue, looked at Bai Yuze on the podium with a resentful gaze, feeling somewhat annoyed: "Fine, fine, so you're Xiao Qing's brother, huh!"
Didn't we agree that neither of us would know the other?
To this day, apart from Xia Qing and Han Xue, none of the other students know each other's names, while the other students can accurately call out the names of every student in their class.
During the class, a teacher on patrol came over and took a look, lingering for a few minutes with great interest.
As the school bell rang,
Bai Yuze stretched, waved to his classmates, and then got up and left the classroom.
"I wonder how Xiaoqing is doing."
Because he was thirsty, Bai Yuze went straight to the vending machine on the first floor.
Bai Yuze scanned the QR code to pay and pressed the Coke button.
"Um?"
Three or four seconds passed.
The vending machine seemed to freeze after displaying "Dispensing" on the screen.
"Don't waste your time, that vending machine is broken."
Bai Yuze ignored the other party's words and executed a beautiful and stylish roundhouse kick.
"Clang!"
A can of Coke fell down.
As he took out the drink, Bai Yuzhe turned around and saw a familiar face.
Feiyue.
Bai Yuzhe wasn't surprised to see Fei Yue appear behind him, after all, he had seen a look of confusion and surprise in her eyes when they were in Class D.
"Your identity is definitely not just that of an ordinary Chinese language teacher."
Fei Yue's words immediately startled him.
"Why do you say that?" Bai Yuze asked. "Isn't it normal for a teacher to know a little martial arts?"
"My intuition tells me you're hiding something," Fei Yue said, her gaze intense. Then, expressionless, she added, "Besides, teacher, you don't want anyone to know you went to the red-light district in Dongguan, do you?"
Bai Yuzhe gave the girl in front of him a deep look, but in the end he didn't argue and asked her directly.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Give me a confidentiality fee." Fei Yue directly held out her palm.
"Is this robbery?" Bai Yuze looked at the pretty girl in front of him asking for money and suddenly had the illusion that the two of them were engaged in an illegal activity.
"Consider it compensation!" Fei Yue suddenly laughed. "You ruined my gaming experience this morning."
Bai Yuze didn't refuse. He subconsciously touched his pockets, only to find them empty. "Name your price, if I can accept it."
Give me the Coke you're holding.
"..." Bai Yuze looked puzzled and asked, "That's it? It's not expensive, you can just scan the code yourself."
"I don't want to be stupid enough to kick a vending machine. Besides, judging from your clothes, you don't look like a rich person at all," Fei Yue said with a hint of disdain.
"Then why did you rob me?!" Bai Yuze looked down and saw that there was nothing wrong with it!
Why do people say I'm dressed shabbily?
"Fun." Fei Yue opened the can, took a comfortable sip, turned around and waved, "See you again, you rude but handsome teacher."
Bai Yuze was suddenly puzzled about what young students were thinking these days.
They just said hello, extorted a can of soda, and left?
Just because it's fun?
