Chapter 2058 - 2047: Unexplained Relief
The Pope is nothing more than the God King of Light's spokesperson in the mortal world—put it harshly, he's just a servant. How could a master possibly reveal his plans to a servant?
"By my guess, I'm afraid even the Church of Light doesn't know what this positioning Teleportation Formation is really for."
"What do you mean?"
"In the Origin World he's the lofty Pope, but once he reaches Middle Earth, what is he then? With that pathetic level of strength, he's probably not even as strong as a Bishop."
Vivian sneered, "He even dares to intercept the Power of Faith. What's there that a guy like that wouldn't dare to do?"
"Even if he has that idea, it doesn't mean he'd dare go that far."
Ning Fan didn't agree with that.
Since the Pope knows that True Gods exist, how could he be so reckless as to deceive them?
"Don't forget, this is the Origin World."
Speaking of this, a sly glint flashed in Vivian's eyes, then she burst into cursing, "God King of Light, you despicable, shameless, insidious, treacherous old turtle, you…"
Listening to this fluent, almost soaring string of curses, Ning Fan, who had been sunk in gloom, actually felt inexplicably relieved, and couldn't help saying,
"Have a little mercy with that mouth of yours. This is the Church of Light; aren't you afraid that old turtle will send down a streak of Holy Light and blast you to death?"
"If anyone gets blasted, it'll be you first."
Vivian laughed loudly. "This is the Origin World. No matter how you call out to the gods, they won't respond at all."
"So if this Pope really wants to do something, the God King of Light might not actually be able to do much to him. With the Origin Will's protection, even a Divine King has to pay a hefty price to make a move."
At this point Vivian suddenly saw the light. "No wonder the God King of Light never mentions that intercepted Power of Faith. Turns out it's to placate this Pope."
"This is just too funny. The dignified Father God of the Light Series actually has a day when he needs to curry favor with a human. I can't wait to spread this all over the Divine Realm."
Seeing Vivian clutching her stomach with laughter, Ning Fan's mouth twitched. It really was a monumental joke, but in his current mood, he simply couldn't laugh.
"Don't look so grim. Relax. The God King of Light isn't going to do anything to Alice."
Ning Fan said excitedly, "Why do you say that? Do you know something?"
"I don't know anything. But think about it a little and it's obvious. With the God King of Light's power, if he wanted to hurt Alice, why go through so much trouble?"
"That's true!"
Ning Fan froze; he had actually overlooked that.
If he really wanted to kill Alice, a few Divine Oracles would be enough.
With the advantage of planning against the unprepared, if the Church of Light launched assassinations regardless of casualties, Alice wouldn't be able to escape at all.
The simplest method would just be to summon a Six-winged Angel Projection.
"Even if he doesn't hurt her, doesn't the Holy Church have some kind of brainwashing Divine Arts…"
Vivian cut him off. "You're overthinking it. In the Origin World, the small Blood Clan at best reach lord-level strength. The Holy Church has no need to recruit such weak thugs, and the God King of Light needs them even less."
"That does make sense."
Ning Fan nodded subconsciously, but still asked nervously, "Then why did the God King of Light capture her?"
"Who knows! Those old guys are all full of schemes, always plotting some grand layout. Maybe Alice is just a single chess piece in the plan."
Ning Fan frowned. "A chess piece?"
"That's already pretty good. Plenty of people don't even have the qualifications to be pieces on the board."
Noticing Ning Fan's unfriendly gaze, Vivian gave a fawning smile. "The biggest benefit of being a chess piece is that your life usually isn't in danger."
Ning Fan barked, "Bullshit. A chess piece only has one fate—to be taken."
"You're not wrong. But since the God King of Light is personally making a move, it means this piece—Alice—is extremely important. He might even be secretly protecting her."
Seeing that Ning Fan was still full of worry, Vivian said helplessly, "Stop worrying. This game won't be decided in anything less than a few thousand years. Alice can at least be safe for a thousand years."
"What makes you so sure?"
"Then you give me a reason to refute it." Vivian said with a hint of mockery. "You tell me, why would the God King of Light abandon the Origin World just to send an insignificant Blood Clan girl to Middle Earth?"
"I… If I knew, I wouldn't be asking you."
In the midst of Vivian's rambling nonsense, Ning Fan's taut nerves suddenly relaxed.
He couldn't help it—what Vivian said made too much sense; he simply couldn't find a point to refute.
"Rather than worrying about the future, you'd be better off spending the time on Cultivation."
Vivian probed, "Well? Want to come with me to the Divine Realm? Maybe even my royal father is in on this game."
"Game?"
Ning Fan really didn't like that word. So many lives, yet in the eyes of the Divine Spirits it was just a game.
Vivian sighed. "Yeah. The Divine Realm is stiflingly dull. If they don't find some entertainment, even Divine Spirits would go insane."
"Enough about that."
Unable to change anything, Ning Fan could only temporarily end the topic.
"If one day I gain power surpassing yours, I'll definitely strip away your Divine Power and let you properly savor what it feels like to be the one being toyed with."
A cold light flashed in Ning Fan's eyes. His already unfavorable view of the God King of Light had now turned into bitter hatred.
"What was with those Demon Beasts?"
"That wasn't mentioned in the Divine Oracle."
Vivian changed the subject. "But the Church of Light usually has prisons to lock up those heinous races."
"You mean those Demon Beasts escaped from a prison?"
"That's how it is in Middle Earth. As for the Origin World, I'm not too sure."
"We'll know if we go take a look, won't we."
Just then Vivian warned, "In the Origin World, you can call the gods by name, even curse them out loud, and nothing will happen. But in Middle Earth, you absolutely can't. Or people will die."
"Got it. Thanks for the reminder."
One way or another, Vivian's performance today really did deserve some praise.
After finding a cloth bag, man and dragon could be said to have left fully loaded.
He glanced at the little standalone house, where fifty sets of Holy Artifacts were laid out.
Taking all those Holy Artifacts on him was clearly unrealistic, so Ning Fan could only wait for another chance to come back for them.
Besides those fifty sets of Holy Artifacts, the Silverlight Armor Ning Fan had found in the Pope's bedroom also had to be left here for now; he only took the keychain with the Cross Sword.
"It's such a hassle not being able to take the stuff. Who knows if they'll still be here next time. If someone outside finds them, I'll take a huge loss."
Thinking of this, Ning Fan asked, "Vivian, don't you Divine Spirits have any Storage Equipment on you?"
"Of course we do. My Storage Bracelet is a Demi-God Artifact…"
