Chapter 35 Li Wei's Acceptance of the Challenge
Chapter 35 Li Wei's Acceptance of the Challenge
On the private beach, a pure white long table is placed on the sand, with Levi and Tessa sitting at opposite ends of the table.
The waiter stood quietly in the distance, waiting for the guests to call him.
The pianist played a soothing melody with complete absorption, while the soft glow of the floor lights helped to create a harmonious atmosphere.
"Is that acceptable?"
Tessa asked Levi a question.
After Li Wei finished showing off the Angus ribeye in front of him in a couple of bites, he smacked his lips with a hint of lingering satisfaction.
"The taste is alright, but the portion is a bit small."
Well, it seems that Li Wei is the kind of person who focuses more on the "essence" than the "details"—he only cares about whether the food tastes good, not whether the atmosphere is romantic.
Tessa thought this way, but instead of feeling disappointed that her carefully arranged plans were ignored, she relaxed.
Because she felt that she understood Li Wei more deeply now.
So she said no more, but picked up the gilded bell in front of her and shook it gently.
The waiter immediately came over, leaned down and whispered a question into his ear.
"Is there anything you need?"
"Another tomahawk steak, please."
Tessa did not lower her voice intentionally for the sake of atmosphere.
So, Li Wei heard it.
He nodded in satisfaction and refrained from saying anything more to spoil the romantic atmosphere.
"By the way, tell the pianist to stop the music too."
As he spoke, Tessa pulled two hundred-dollar bills from his handbag and handed them to the waiter.
"This is the 20% tip, for you and the pianist."
The waiter's smile widened slightly.
"Thank you, generous lady. Have a pleasant evening."
After the waiter finished speaking, he left without asking.
Li Wei waited until the music stopped before speaking out his question.
"You seem to be giving in to me a lot? I mean... you wouldn't actually want to sleep with me, would you?"
Tessa simply smiled at Li Wei's direct and blunt question, then raised her wine glass in a distant toast to him.
"I do want to sleep with you, but not just sleep with you. What? Is there a problem?"
"But I don't really want you to sleep with me."
Li Wei refused outright, but still raised his glass in response to Tessa's toast, and then drank the champagne in his glass in one gulp, just like drinking beer.
Tessa's smile remained unchanged. After taking a sip of champagne, he relaxed on the long table, rested his chin on his hand, and asked a question with great interest.
It's "not really wanting to," not "not wanting to."
"So you're still somewhat interested in my purpose, aren't you?"
Li Wei leaned back, grabbed a handful of nuts and snacks provided by the hotel, and started popping them into his mouth while responding to Tessa.
"Undeniably, you are a very attractive woman. No physiologically normal man would resist having some 'romantic memories' with you."
Li Wei's words made Tessa raise her beautiful golden eyebrows.
But then, Li Wei changed the subject.
"But 'love' and 'marriage' are different concepts."
"Romance and passion can be everything in love, but marriage is not about one-sided compromise and tolerance."
I appreciate your willingness to accommodate me, so I am responding appropriately out of politeness.
"But I hope you understand one thing."
"That is, after I learned that I had a brain tumor and that there was no possibility of a cure, I decided not to spend the rest of my life accommodating anyone."
"Therefore, don't bury your head and crawl along a path that is destined to lead nowhere; instead, raise your head and look for new scenery."
"Please remember these words, Tessa."
Watching Li Wei munching on peanuts, Taisha changed to resting her chin on her hands.
"Li Wei, I also have something to tell you."
"From our first phone call before we even met, I developed a strong interest in you."
"If your Santa Claus-like promise makes me want to 'have you'..."
"Well, after I've reviewed your information and learned a bit about your life, I've made my decision."
"You are mine, and no one can take you away."
"And I am willing and look forward to living with you... just like you."
"So, for me, it's not important whether you agree or not; what's important is that I'm willing to do these things to accommodate you."
"At least for now, I'm willing."
"If I ever decide I don't want to anymore, I'll tell you directly."
"At the same time, I hope you are prepared... prepared to take back what you said today."
Tessa's demeanor was like that of a young girl confessing her first love, but his words were like those of a queen ordering the conquest of a country.
Li Wei felt he had been provoked.
However, he did not retaliate as forcefully as usual; he simply smiled.
"Tessa, since you have 'declared war,' I have no reason not to 'accept the challenge.'"
"However, out of a sense of 'humanitarianism,' I should tell you."
"The reason I'm still alive today, being hunted down by Death with a 'brain tumor,' is because He has no other way."
"The only one who can defeat me is myself."
Levi thought he was incredibly handsome, and Tessa thought so too.
Until the tomahawk steak was served.
"It smells so good!"
Li Wei immediately began to devour a 1-kilogram steak.
As Tessa watched Levi eat with his mouth full of oil, he suddenly felt that Levi was actually a little... cute?
No, not just a little, she's really cute.
Because Li Wei was enjoying his meal when he suddenly looked up and asked Tessa a question.
"Are you full? Would you like some more steak?"
But Tessa refused.
"I enjoyed my dinner tonight and don't plan to eat anymore."
"A proper diet combined with reasonable exercise is one of my secrets to maintaining my charm."
Surprisingly, Li Wei nodded in agreement after being rejected.
"It seems that your statement about wanting to live 'like me' is not just empty talk."
"Regardless of your motives, congratulations on being able to face yourself instead of conforming to others."
Tessa didn't say much, only asked one question.
"Is that enough for you?"
Li Wei didn't answer directly, but instead made a sarcastic remark.
"I'm just a human with a good appetite, but of course, it would be even better if it were served with some rice."
"A very novel way to eat it."
As Tessa spoke, she reached for the bell to ask Levi for some more rice.
But her phone rang at that inopportune moment.
She ignored it and first rang the bell to get Li Wei a bowl of rice before taking out her phone, which was ringing like a death knell, from her handbag.
After glancing at the caller ID, Tessa hung up immediately.
Li Wei, who had deliberately left some steak to serve with rice later, asked a question upon seeing this.
"What's up?"
Tessa shook his head indifferently.
"Nothing, Harvey Rogers called me."
"They probably want to know if I've gone crazy, making such a commotion tonight."
Li Wei nodded calmly.
"It seems the time has come for me to keep my promise."
Just then, Li Wei's rice arrived.
"However, he'll have to wait a while."
"I need to finish my meal first."
As he spoke, he continued eating his steak.
Tessa said nothing, simply watching Levi eat in silence.
