The food had been thoroughly cooked, and the indigenous people sat down around the edge of the pit without worrying about the heat, grabbing food and stuffing it into their mouths.

Zhou Xin was initially quite interested in the chunks of meat, but after taking a bite, he found them extremely fishy and completely unpalatable.

He had originally planned to just eat some fruit, palm hearts, and wild vegetables, but to his surprise, Leo and several other enthusiastic natives grabbed a large piece of meat and handed it to him, while muttering something incoherently.

It seems they thought Zhou Xin was just being polite out of politeness, so they warmly urged him to eat more meat.

Zhou Xin couldn't bear to disappoint their enthusiasm, so he forced himself to swallow a few mouthfuls, suppressing the rising stomach acid, and then tossed the remaining large piece to Logan.

After finishing their meal, the indigenous people lit a large bonfire in the open space in the middle of the village and danced a strange dance around it.

Their faces were filled with pure smiles, as if there were no worries in the world.

Evans sat on a piece of wood not far away, watching the crowd dancing happily in the arena, a smile on his face.

At this moment, Zhou Xin seemed to understand why Evans was willing to give up everything in civilized society and return to this primitive tribe.

That night, Zhou Xin was arranged to rest in an empty house. The house was similar in structure to Evans's, but it was more rudimentary, with only a pile of dry grass laid out in the corner as a bed.

However, it's still much more comfortable than sleeping in a tent.

The next day, just as dawn broke, Zhou Xin was awakened by the busy locals.

They have no other entertainment at night and go to bed almost as soon as it gets dark, so they also get up very early in the morning.

Compared to the urban wage slaves who work day and night, their schedules are indeed much more regular.

After washing up in the stream near the tribe, Zhou Xin went to Evans's residence.

Evans changed into sportswear today and looked very energetic, without any of the weariness often associated with older people.

After eating some of the leftover roasted palm hearts from last night, Evans set off with Zhou Xin.

Accompanying them were Leo and Hughes, who had found him the day before, carrying torches.

At first, Zhou Xin was a little worried about whether Evans, at his age, could still traverse the forest, but he soon realized that he was overthinking it.

Evans moved swiftly through the forest, his speed no slower than Leo's or Hughes'.

Zhou Xin found that if he didn't give it his all, he wouldn't even be able to keep up with him.

This left Zhou Xin, who thought he was very familiar with the forest, feeling somewhat defeated. It seemed that compared to those who actually lived in the forest, he, as an outsider, was still too inexperienced.

It didn't take long for them to return to Dream Creek.

After a short rest, they continued upstream along the stream.

Along the way, Zhou Xin passed several more places where he could pan for gold, but he obviously couldn't let Evans and the others wait for him to finish panning for gold before continuing his journey, so he had to give them up for the time being.

At worst, we can just part ways with them and then come back.

The place Evans mentioned was indeed quite far. They had been traveling very fast, but it wasn't until noon that they finally arrived at their destination.

This is a cave with an entrance about half a meter high, located at the bottom of a rock wall next to a stream.

The entrance to the cave was hidden by dense vegetation, and it was almost impossible to spot unless you looked closely.

Part of the cave entrance is still submerged in water, and you can vaguely see water flowing out of the cave.

Zhou Xin's heart skipped a beat; he could smell a faint scent of gold from the cave entrance.

Although the concentration was not high, it was enough to indicate that gold was present in the cave.

Could this be the location of a gold mine?

Zhou Xin suppressed his excitement and turned to look at Evans.

"Don't be fooled by the small opening; the space inside is enormous, and there are some truly amazing things inside."

After Evans finished speaking, he gave Leo a few instructions, and Leo immediately went to the edge of the cave and cleared away the weeds and vegetation on both sides.

Then, Leo lit the torch in his hand and prepared to bend down and crawl into the hole.

"Use mine," Zhou Xin said, taking a high-powered flashlight from his backpack, turning it on, and handing it over.

Zhou Xin mainly considered that the cave entrance was too small, and it would be almost necessary to crawl in, making it inconvenient to carry a torch.

Leo looked at the flashlight emitting a bright light with surprise, then turned to look at Evans with a questioning gaze.

After Evans nodded, he took the flashlight and handed the torch to Zhou Xin.

After he ducked into the hole, he reached out from inside and gestured for Zhou Xin to give him the torch.

Next, Zhou Xin and the others, along with Logan, climbed into the cave one after another.

Indeed, as Evans said, although the entrance was narrow, the space inside was very large.

Using the light of torches and flashlights, Zhou Xin was able to see his surroundings clearly.

This is a space the size of a basketball court, with a height of seven or eight meters.

The ground in the space was very flat, as if it had been paved by human hands.

However, the ground was covered with mud and sand, and there were also traces of water erosion.

A small stream flowed along the edge of the space and flowed out of the cave entrance.

Obviously, during the rainy season when the water level rises, the stream here will turn into an underground river flowing outwards.

Zhou Xin's nose twitched; he could smell a faint golden scent from all around him.

However, the scene of overwhelming fragrance that he had envisioned did not materialize.

In other words, although there is gold here, it is not as abundant as he imagined, and it is not a dream gold mine.

Could it be that there was indeed a rich mine here before, but it was all washed away by the water flow?

Just as he was wondering, Evans led him to the rock walls surrounding the cave.

Evans took the powerful flashlight and shone it on the rock wall, and Zhou Xin's eyes immediately narrowed.

There was a mural on the rock wall!

The murals were painted in a very simple manner, but the content was exceptionally clear.

"I have examined it carefully. I don't know when the mural was created, but judging from the surrounding environment, it should be at least several hundred years old."

Evans handed the flashlight to Zhou Xin, indicating that he should look at it himself.

At the beginning of the mural, several people are crawling into a hole, which Zhou Xin guessed must be the entrance they had just entered.

The figures in the murals are simply circles with a few strokes depicting the torso and limbs, as if drawn by a young child learning to paint.

When Zhou Xin saw the second scene depicted in the mural, he was stunned.

The scene depicts several people finally climbing into a cave, where they then see a patch of shimmering rocks.

The rocks are drawn in a very realistic manner, with radiating lines drawn around them to indicate that they are glowing.

Could it be that there really was a gold mine here, but someone beat them to it and dug it up first?

Zhou Xin immediately looked behind him, and the content of the mural indeed confirmed his guess.

The person in the painting returned to the place where the crowd had gathered, and then led dozens of people back to the cave with tools.

Next, people chiseled off the glowing stones and carried them out of the cave.

When Zhou Xin saw the last scene of the mural, he was stunned once again.

In the mural, those people transported the gold back and used it to build a cluster of houses.

People from other directions also gathered, dragging gold, to build those houses. The houses were surrounded by radiating rays to indicate that they were glowing.

Zhou Xin stared blankly at the scene, a word popping into his mind.

Golden City!
