Chapter 37: Spiritual Consciousness
Chapter 37: Spiritual Consciousness
The three didn't have to wait long before Yao Ning led a petite girl into the bedroom.
The little girl had a pair of cat ears and a few whiskers on her face that looked like a cat's. She was easily recognizable as a cat demon. Her beautiful eyes, like cat's eyes, were so charming that they unconsciously made other men feel sorry for her.
Her outfit was also eye-catching; after all, if her figure wasn't good, she had to make up for it in other ways.
Obviously, starting with clothing and appearance is the best and simplest way to score points.
Out of politeness, Qin Bo only glanced at it symbolically before looking away, afraid of being affected.
Chen Qi, on the other hand, was even more polite.
His gaze never left the person from beginning to end.
Even the little cat demon girl who was brought in felt a chill run down her spine from the stare and shrank back.
"Alright," Yao Ning tossed the cat demon directly in front of the three of them, leaned lazily against the door, and said, "This is the person you're looking for. Ask her any questions you have."
Chen Qi stared at the cat demon kneeling on the ground, trembling. The cat demon, in turn, looked at the three people before him with terrified eyes. "Is...is there something wrong? My lords, I...I'm just an ordinary cat demon. I haven't done anything heinous..."
Yao Ning took a sachet out of her pocket, threw it on the ground in front of the cat demon, and said, "Do you recognize this?"
The cat demon picked up the sachet from the ground and nodded, saying, "I...I recognize it. This is a sachet I gave to a guest as a keepsake. How...how did it end up here? Did that guest spread rumors about this place?"
"Then it's simple, it's not what you think," Shen Nianxu squatted down in front of the cat demon like a gang leader and questioned, "There was a ghostly aura in this sachet before, which even killed an ordinary person. Our bookstore now suspects that you committed murder on purpose."
"Me?" The cat demon looked terrified and shook its head repeatedly. "I wouldn't dare kill anyone! I was a victim who was hunted down by you and the previous bookstore owner along with Lord Ning back then. I have a psychological trauma from killing, so how could I harm someone for no reason?"
Shen Nianxu looked up at Yao Ning, "Is that so?"
"Indeed," Yao Ning nodded. "Back then, she was almost ripped off by the previous owner of your bookstore. Now, just mentioning his name makes her legs go weak with fear."
If she has had such an experience, the possibility of her harming others will indeed be reduced, but it is not impossible.
"Then explain to me," Shen Nianxu said, pointing at the sachet, "why is there a ghostly aura on it? Didn't you notice anything wrong with this sachet when you gave it to the guest?"
The cat demon quickly replied, "How could I sense ghostly energy? That's a privilege reserved for powerful cultivators or demons. My strength is only comparable to a first or second-tier cultivator; how could I possibly sense such things?"
This seems to be true, because Shen Nianxu did not raise any questions.
Chen Qi asked Qin Bo, who was standing beside him, "Is ghostly energy really that mysterious?"
"Of course," Qin Bo nodded, giving an affirmative answer. "Ghosts are very mysterious things. Unless the ghost itself is powerful enough, it is impossible to see it without using spiritual sense."
At this point, Qin Bo suddenly realized, "You don't know what spiritual awareness is, right? You can activate spiritual awareness by covering your eyes with spiritual energy. It's a very convenient ability, and it can even help you determine a person's strength."
Such amazing ability?
Following Qin Bo's instructions, Chen Qi channeled his spiritual energy to cover his eyes.
A sense of clarity surged up to the top of Chen Qi's head, and the scenery before his eyes instantly underwent a tremendous change.
It was mainly the color tone that darkened the entire world in his field of vision, as if it were covered by a layer of dark green tea.
Qin Bo beside him had a slightly fecal-like yellow hue, while the cat demon in front of him was a clear, watery blue.
As for Yao Ning in the distance, she exuded a dangerous light red aura.
Shen Nianxu, standing before Chen Qi, had a deeper crimson hue than Yao Ning.
It looked like a pool of murky blood.
"The different colors represent the differences between cultivators," Qin Bo patiently explained to his new boss. "You should be able to tell."
Chen Qi nodded slightly. Blue meant there was no difference, yellow meant there was a slight difference, and red meant there was a huge difference.
Wow, it has such a convenient capability!
According to Chen Qi's spiritual sense, Shen Nianxu was clearly the strongest person present.
This woman is not to be underestimated...
Looking at the cat demon's pained and terrified expression, Shen Nianxu didn't think it was lying at all.
Moreover, expecting a weak demon to recognize ghostly energy is indeed asking too much.
However, Shen Nianxu had a unique solution to this situation.
"I understand." With that, Shen Nianxu stood up.
Seeing this, the cat demon breathed a sigh of relief.
"Then let's just put this matter on the Wan Yao Club's head," Shen Nianxu said, looking at Yao Ning. "Either you, Wan Yao Club, provide a solution or an explanation; or I'll have Wang Shande come and talk to you."
Although Yao Ning could still maintain an elegant smile, the veins on her forehead were practically bulging. "Miss Shen, this is a bit unreasonable of you..."
"Really? The problem only occurred after the person received the sachets from you. Either you have quality control issues with the sachets, or someone here is deliberately using living people to raise ghosts. The problem must lie with the Ten Thousand Demons Club."
Shen Nianxu's tone was firm, finally showing Chen Qi what the bookstore's previous operating style was like: "When consumers have problems, who else can they turn to besides the business? The relevant departments?"
For a moment, Yao Ning had no words to refute it, but this matter absolutely could not be taken to Wang Shande.
If this matter gets to Wang Shande, it's tantamount to the government getting involved. At that point, not only will the Wanyao Club be forced to close for rectification, but it's uncertain whether it will even be able to reopen!
So many demons and half-demons in Qingcheng are still waiting to eke out a living under my protection, the Ten Thousand Demons Guild absolutely cannot be closed!
"I understand..." Yao Ning took a deep breath, her high chest heaving noticeably. "The Ten Thousand Demons Club will give you all an explanation. Please follow me."
Chen Qi asked, "Where are we going?"
Yao Ning's gaze was slightly unfocused.
"I'll take you to see the person who makes the sachets."
